Not all coloured stones come from the earth, and though natural stones are most sought after, in many instances a created stone can offer incredible depth of colour, and that star quality that you may be seeking. A created stone is one produced in a laboratory, which simulates the same conditions that are employed to produce a stone deep under the surface of the earth.
The main difference between natural and created stones, is the evidence of inclusions in most natural stones, and none in created stones. This may seem an attractive compromise, however some created stones have a tendency to look too perfect, and therefore may be less appealing because of that "perfection".
Created stones however have a rightful place in jewellery manufacturing, and judgments of choice between natural and created stones will be based on "the look" you are seeking, and the availability of a particular colour, and price.
